FALL AWAY

the sky’s awash

a palette of blackbirds

as though dripping

slides down a cloud

contrived

at eyelevel

in delicate design

the fussy geometry

of a spider’s web

floats

on cool air

immersed

in the shifting of the sun

lights to dark

caressing

in silence

the girth of a craggy hemlock
